What Is Evista Used For?

Evista contains raloxifene hydrochloride and belongs to a group of medicines called Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulators (SERMs). When a woman reaches menopause, the level of female sex hormone, estrogen, goes down. Evista mimics some of the beneficial effects of estrogen after menopause.

Primary Uses

Evista is used to prevent and treat osteoporosis in women after menopause. It is also used to reduce the risk of invasive breast cancer in women with osteoporosis after menopause and reduce the risk of invasive breast cancer in women at high risk of invasive breast cancer after menopause.

How It Works

Evista belongs to a group of medicines called Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulators (SERMs). It mimics some of the beneficial effects of estrogen after menopause when natural estrogen levels decline.

Good to know: For maximum benefit, Evista is intended for long-term use as prescribed by your doctor.

How to Take Evista

The usual dose of Evista is one tablet per day. It can be taken at any time of the day, but it’s best to take it at the same time each day to help you remember. The days of the week are printed on the blister foil to help you remember your daily dose.

Dosage Instructions

Take one tablet per day, swallowed whole with a glass of water. You may take Evista with or without food. When prescribed for osteoporosis treatment or prevention, Evista should be taken with supplementary calcium if your daily calcium intake is inadequate.

What If You Miss a Dose?

If you miss your dose at the usual time and it’s almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take your next dose when you’re meant to. Otherwise, take it as soon as you remember, then go back to taking Evista as you would normally.

Important: Do not take a double dose to make up for the dose you missed.
