Pariet 10 (Rabeprazole Sodium)
Complete patient guide for uses, dosage, side effects, and safety information
Prescription RequiredQuick Facts
What Is Pariet 10 Used For?
Pariet 10 contains rabeprazole sodium and belongs to a group of medicines called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). It works by decreasing the amount of acid your stomach makes to provide relief from symptoms, while your food will still be digested normally.
Primary Uses
Pariet 10 is used for symptomatic relief of heartburn and stomach acid complaints caused by gastro-oesophageal reflux. This occurs when food and acid ‘wash back’ from the stomach into the food pipe (oesophagus), causing a burning sensation in the chest that rises to the throat. Frequent heartburn (occurring two or more days per week) is a typical symptom of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD).
How It Works
Pariet 10 will start to suppress acid within a few hours, but it will not give instant symptom relief. You may need to take it for a few days before experiencing the full effect.
Good to know: There is no evidence that Pariet 10 is addictive.
How to Take Pariet 10
Pariet 10 should be taken consistently at the same time each day for best results. The tablets have a special coating that protects them from stomach acid, so proper administration is important.
Dosage Instructions
The usual dose is one tablet per day, taken at the same time each day, for at least 7 days and up to 14 days. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water or other liquid. Do NOT crush or chew the tablets as they have a special coating that protects them from stomach acid. It doesn’t matter if you take Pariet 10 with food or on an empty stomach. Do not exceed the recommended dosage.
What If You Miss a Dose?
If you forget to take your tablet, take it as soon as you remember and then continue taking it normally. However, if it’s almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take your next dose when scheduled. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.
Important: You should not take Pariet 10 for more than 14 days unless directed by a doctor. If symptoms persist or recur within 14 days of completing the course, consult a doctor.

Long-term Use Considerations
Long-term PPI use may cause low magnesium (symptoms include seizures, dizziness, spasms, cramps, muscle weakness), which can lead to low calcium and/or potassium levels. PPIs may reduce stomach acid needed to absorb vitamin B-12 properly – discuss B-12 deficiency risk if taking PPI for more than 3 years. High-dose, long-term use (1 year or longer) may increase fracture risk of hip, wrist, or spine. Withdrawal of long-term PPI therapy may worsen acid-related symptoms.
