What Is Nordip Used For?

Nordip contains amlodipine besilate and belongs to a group of medicines called calcium channel blockers. These medications work by widening your blood vessels, making it easier for your heart to pump blood around the body.

Primary Uses

Nordip is used to lower high blood pressure (hypertension) and treat angina pectoris (chest pain due to the heart not getting enough oxygen). High blood pressure usually has no symptoms, so regular blood pressure checks are important. If left untreated, high blood pressure can lead to serious health problems.

How It Works

Nordip works by widening your blood vessels, making it easier for your heart to pump blood around the body and helping increase the supply of blood and oxygen to your heart. Calcium channel blockers do not change the amount of calcium in your blood or bones.

Important: Nordip is NOT for the relief of a sudden attack of angina. Your doctor will give you other medication to treat sudden angina attacks.

How to Take Nordip

Take Nordip exactly as your doctor has prescribed. You must take it every day and continue taking it for as long as your doctor tells you, even if you feel well.

Dosage Instructions

The usual dose is one 5 mg tablet each day. Your doctor may increase this to one 10 mg tablet each day. Take your medicine at about the same time each day, either morning or evening. Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water. Nordip can be taken with or without food.

What If You Miss a Dose?

If you miss your dose and it is less than 12 hours before your next dose, skip the missed dose and take your next dose when you are meant to. Otherwise, take it as soon as you remember, then go back to taking your medicine as you would normally.

Important: Do not take a double dose to make up for the dose you missed. This may increase the chance of getting unwanted side effects.

Medical Conditions to Discuss

Tell your doctor if you have or have had heart problems (including heart failure), liver problems, or allergies to any other medicines or substances. Also inform your doctor about any other medicines you are taking.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Check with your doctor if you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant. This medicine may affect your developing baby. Do not breast-feed while taking Nordip as the active ingredient passes into breast milk and may affect your baby. Tell your doctor immediately if you become pregnant while taking Nordip.

Elderly Patients: If you are 65 years or older, you should be especially careful while taking Nordip and report any side effects promptly to your doctor. You may be more likely to experience side effects such as swelling of feet and ankles, muscle cramps and dizziness.
