What Is Mounjaro KwikPen Used For?

Mounjaro KwikPen contains tirzepatide, a medicine that belongs to a group called ‘GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonists’. It helps your body control blood sugar and manage weight.

Primary Uses

In adults with type 2 diabetes, Mounjaro KwikPen improves blood sugar control. For adults who are overweight or have obesity, it’s used for weight management including weight loss and weight maintenance. In adults with obesity, it also treats moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), a condition that causes frequent brief interruptions of breathing during sleep.

How It Works

Diabetes occurs when your pancreas doesn’t produce enough insulin to control your blood sugar levels. Mounjaro KwikPen helps improve this control and can be used alone or with other diabetes medicines. For sleep apnoea, it may be used with or without positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy.

Good to know: Mounjaro KwikPen can be used at any time of day, with or without meals, making it convenient to fit into your routine.

How to Take Mounjaro KwikPen

Mounjaro KwikPen is a pre-filled pen that contains 4 doses. You inject it under the skin of your stomach or upper leg once a week on the same day each week.

Dosage Instructions

Starting dose is 2.5 mg once weekly for 4 weeks. After 4 weeks, your dose increases to 5 mg once weekly. Your doctor may increase your dose by 2.5 mg every 4 weeks to reach 7.5 mg, 10 mg, 12.5 mg, or 15 mg once weekly if needed. The maximum dose is 15 mg once weekly. Change injection sites to different areas to reduce pain and irritation. After 4 doses, throw away the pen – there will be leftover medicine, but this is normal.

What If You Miss a Dose?

Take your missed dose as soon as possible. If there are fewer than 3 days until your next dose, skip the missed dose and take your next dose on your regular day. You can change your weekly injection day as long as it’s been at least 3 days since your last injection.

Important: Never take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose. Do not inject the leftover medicine after using your 4 doses.
