What Is Evenity Used For?

Evenity is a prescription medication that helps build stronger bones by working in two ways – it builds new bone while preventing the breakdown of existing bone.

Primary Uses

Evenity is used to treat osteoporosis in women after menopause and osteoporosis in men. Osteoporosis is a condition where bones become thin and fragile, making them more likely to break, especially in the spine, hips, and wrists.

How It Works

Evenity works by blocking a protein called sclerostin. By preventing sclerostin’s activity, Evenity both builds new bone and decreases the breakdown of existing bone, which strengthens bones, improves bone mass and structure, and lowers the chance of breaking bones.

Good to know: After completing your 12-month course of Evenity, you’ll need to continue with another osteoporosis treatment to maintain bone strength.

How to Take Evenity

Evenity is given as an injection under the skin (subcutaneous injection) by a healthcare professional or trained caregiver.

Dosage Instructions

The usual dose is 210 mg given as two separate 105 mg injections, one after the other, on the same day. You’ll receive this dose once every month for 12 months. Your doctor may train you or your caregiver to give the injections at home.

What If You Miss a Dose?

If you miss your monthly dose, take it as soon as possible. Then schedule your next dose one month from the date of your last injection. Continue with your regular monthly schedule from there.

Important: Never take a double dose to make up for a missed injection. Only use Evenity if you’ve received proper training on how to inject it.

Who Should Not Take Evenity

Do not use Evenity if you have a history of heart attack or stroke, have low calcium levels in your blood (hypocalcemia), are allergic to romosozumab or any ingredients, or are a child or adolescent.

Medical Conditions to Discuss

Tell your doctor if you’re taking other osteoporosis medicines (like denosumab or bisphosphonates), have previously had low calcium or vitamin D levels, have problems with your mouth, jaw bone or teeth, have increased cardiovascular risk factors (heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, smoking, kidney problems), or have allergies to other medicines.
