Dr. Tom Here, Got A Minute?
I was watching TV the other day, flipping around, and I came upon The Untouchables.
There’s a great scene in there—there’s the Sean Connery character playing the old Irish cop that kept coming up with this phrase, “What are you prepared to do”?
I remember that Elliot Ness was trying to bring down Al Capone, and I asked myself, “Wow, why does that sound familiar?” Because this is what I challenge my patients with all the time.
They’re coming in; they want to get to the next level. They want to take their game up. They want to do whatever—this, that and the other.
And I say to them, essentially, “What are you prepared to do?”
“How much effort and how much time are you willing to devote to this?”
“More than that, do you think that the time and effort you’ve put into it thus far is enough?”
Probably not.
What are you prepared to do?
