Dr. Tom Here, Got A Minute?
I was talking to my students the other day, and I was teaching a motivation class. They said, “Doc, can you summarize everything? Can you give us just what we are going to be talking about?” I said, “Yeah, I can cut out the middle man and tell you exactly what we’re going to be talking about; I can distill this entire course down into two words: Pay Attention.”
And they said, “Well, we all pay attention.”
(laughs)
“No you don’t.”
Most people live unexamined lives. Most people go through life, more or less, floating along and going with the flow.
When you pay attention, it’s not just with your eyes and what you’re noticing; it’s what you hear and what you smell and what you feel kinesthetically. Everything about you, sensory array is on.
If you pay attention, you’re going to see—eventually—what others merely look at.
