Dr. Tom Here, Got A Minute?
Something I’ve noticed over the past 30 years of my practice is the people who have the greatest amount of trouble are the ones who are consumed with the ‘there’ and ‘then’ versus the ‘here’ and ‘now’.
What do I mean by that?
There’s an old expression, “Carpe Diem,” that means ‘seize the day’ and ‘try to experience everything right now; try to live here and now’. The only problem is we are consumed a great deal of the time with what is yet to be (the future or the “there and then”) or what has already passed (what is already gone). Being here and now is really tough because you have to close off all of that and resist the temptation to be haunted by either.
So, remember this:
With the “here and now”, Carpe Diem is the only thing you have any control over.
Right here.
Right now.
