I’m going to ask you to something very weird right now. First, I want you to listen to your thoughts. Tell me, what thoughts fill your mind? Would you label them as positive, or negative? Now let’s say you are walking down the street with these thoughts. Do you think anyone you meet would be able to tell you what’s on your mind? The answer is up to you. Although people will not be able to tell you exactly what you are thinking, they’ll have a pretty good idea of how you’re feeling with your attitude.
Frame of Mind
Here’s another question. When you enter a party filled with friends, do they all fall silent as if something terrible had happened? Or, does everybody perk up as if waiting for something exciting to happen? The answer depends on your frame of mind. Thoughts can be quite powerful. They can affect your general attitude. The one you carry is also reflected in your appearance (unless you’re a great actor!).
Attitude
Your attitude can also affect everyone around you. The one you carry can be either positive or negative. Positive thoughts have a filling effect. They are energizing and invigorating. The people around positive thoughts are usually energized by this type of attitude. A positive attitude attracts people, while a negative one repels them. People tend to shy away from those who carry a negative attitude. Negative thoughts have a dampening and sapping effect on others. Aside from making you look gloomy and sad, negative thoughts can often turn a festive gathering into a funeral wake.
Positive or Negative
Attitude is, essentially, your way of looking at the world. If you choose to focus on the negative things in the world, you will tend to have a negative one brewing. However, if you choose to focus on positive things, you are far more likely project a positive one. You have much to gain from a very positive attitude. Studies have shown that a positive attitude promotes better health. Those with a positive one have more friends. Projecting a positive attitude also helps you to handle stress better than those with a negative one.
A positive attitude begins with a healthy self-image. If you like the way you are and are satisfied, confident, and self-assured, you tend to make others around you feel the same way. A negative attitude, on the other hand, has the opposite effect. Carrying a negative attitude has a two-fold drawback. Not only do you feel bad about yourself, you influence others to feel the same way.
Thoughts
If you want to project a positive attitude, you have to generate healthy thoughts. This can be quite a challenge nowadays. The media seems to feed us nothing but negative thoughts. It seems that we can easily be affected by this constant influence. A disturbing study showed that for every 14 things a parent says to their child, only one is positive. This is truly a saddening thought.
To develop a healthier outlook in life, you need to start thinking happy thoughts. It would help if you could hear positive things as well. But, what can you do? For starters, you could watch a funny movie, play with children, or spend some time telling jokes and socializing with friends. These activities can fill you with positive stimuli and help promote a positive attitude. Although it is impossible to keep ourselves from all of the negative things surrounding us, you can still carry a positive attitude by noticing the good and positive things in life.
Benefits
This positive attitude you have created can be beneficial to other people. Sometimes when people feel down, most people try to give them advice. However, all they really need is somebody to sit and listen to them. If you have a positive attitude you may be able to cheer them up without even having to say a word.
Signals
If a positive attitude is so great, why do people choose to adopt a negative one? Some people who carry a negative one may be actually sending signals for attention. Feeling sad, angry, or gloomy is not always wrong. However, dwelling on these thoughts for too long is not healthy either. There may be a time to mourn. But there is a time when enough is enough. If you are having troubles, even in your darkest hour, pay attention to the good things in life. You will always have hope. Problems are something you can overcome.
Adopt
You don’t have anything to lose by adopting a healthy, positive attitude. Studies have shown that such an attitude actually retards aging! It makes you healthier, helps you develop a better stress coping mechanism, and it has a positive effect on everyone you meet. Allow yourself to adopt a positive attitude today.
