What Is Revestive Used For?

Revestive contains teduglutide and is specifically designed to help people with Short Bowel Syndrome who need extra nutrition or fluids through IV feeding.

Primary Uses

Revestive is used to treat adults and children 2 years of age and above with Short Bowel Syndrome who need additional nutrition or fluids from intravenous feeding (parenteral support). Short Bowel Syndrome is a disorder that prevents your body from absorbing food nutrients and fluid properly from your gut, often caused by surgical removal of all or part of the small intestine.

How It Works

Revestive improves the absorption of nutrients and fluid from your remaining gut, helping reduce your dependence on IV nutrition support.

How to Take Revestive

Revestive is given as a daily injection under the skin. Your doctor will calculate the exact dose based on your body weight and provide detailed training on how to prepare and inject the medication.

Dosage Instructions

The recommended daily dose is 0.05 mg per kg body weight once per day, given under the skin. Your doctor will prescribe the dose as mL of solution based on your body weight. The injection can be self-administered or given by another person like your doctor, caregiver, or home nurse. If you’re self-injecting, you must receive proper training from your doctor or nurse. Inject at the same time each day, rotating injection sites on your belly or thigh to avoid discomfort.

What If You Miss a Dose?

If you miss your dose at the usual time, take it as soon as possible on that same day. Never use more than one injection in the same day. Do not inject a double dose to make up for the missed dose.

Important: Never inject more than one dose per day, even if you missed your regular dose

Frequently Asked Questions

The source material does not specify how long Revestive takes to show effects. Your doctor will monitor your progress through regular appointments to assess how well the medication is working for you.

The source material does not mention any food restrictions with Revestive. Since it’s an injection given under the skin, food timing should not affect the medication.

If you miss your dose at the usual time, take it as soon as possible on that same day. Never use more than one injection in the same day, and do not inject a double dose to make up for the missed dose.

Rotate injection sites each day using the upper, lower, left and right sides of your belly to avoid discomfort. You can also use your thigh if you have pain or tissue hardening on your belly. Avoid areas that are inflamed, swollen, scarred, or near a stoma.

Regular colonoscopies are required to check for polyps (small abnormal growths) in your colon and rectum. Adults need these examinations once a year during the first two years, then at minimum five-year intervals. Children need them after 1 year of treatment and every 5 years thereafter.

Do not stop using Revestive or lower the dosage without checking with your doctor. If you stop using it suddenly, your fluid balance may change, which could be harmful.

Do not use Revestive if you notice that the solution is cloudy or contains particles. The final solution should be clear. If it’s cloudy or has particles, discard it and start preparation again with a new vial.
